I was having a discussion with some co-workers and some ADC guys when a question came up that none of us had a SOLID answer for.
Is there a need for an ECOM100 with the DoMore DM1E?
If you are using the on-board Ethernet port, is it wise to dedicate all multi-device Modbus TCP communication, programming, C-More communication, etc. to the that port OR should you allocate some responsibilities to a separate ECOM100 unit?
-
There are great reasons to use ECOM100s with DM1Es, generally related to load and/or network segregation. We have a number of users using both.

Bob,
With that in mind, has there been any thoughts to an ECOM100 unit using the Terminator platform?
-
We considered it, but I'm not sure there is enough volume for it to justify the development cost. The T1H-DM1/E is a great solution for certain apps, but it is still fairly niche.

Roger that. Thanks, Bob.

MAEdwards, it is a good practice to separate your external I/O from HMI or programming. So being able to use an ECOM100 is nice. I would hate to loose my I/O because of a network problem in the programming plc or HMI, etc. Could be dangerous. But then again, I never had a network failure. I also communicate back and forth on the I/O and if I do not get an answer back, I know my I/O is down and can shut down safely.

Thanks PLCGuy!
I like the level of people that hang out in this room!
