Title: Do-more 1.4 Usage Information
Post by: BobO on July 15, 2015, 05:00:46 PM
Data is streaming in!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

We are still working on the utility to post process what we are getting, but, we can dump the session reports and read them old school. Quick overview:
1. A good range of instructions being used, even some we would consider to be obscure.
2. Several of y'all are doing custom protocols...including TCP servers. Very cool.
3. Lots and lots of modularity...both tasks and programs. One user had over 60 program blocks!
4. Lots of stages. We are big fans, but this has been a topic of endless debate. Glad to see them used on a broad scale.
5. Some of y'all got some nice development environments with lots of high-res monitors, while at least one or two are limping by on a single 800x600 screen. Seems like a small thing, but knowing this is important to GUI development.

We are completely puzzled by one thing though...almost nobody is using Trend View. Really?!? It is one of the single best features of Do-more and out of the first 5 days of session data we only see **ONE** user with a Trend View. So help us out here, why? Not useful? Didn't know it was there? Didn't know you can use it to trend discrete I/O points (think Logic Analyzer)? I'm amazed that we missed this one so badly.

Anyway, just wanted to offer a bit of feedback on the feedback. We are like kids in a candy store right now. So much useful data to help us better know what y'all do with Do-more, and I'm am certain it is going to improve the product. Thank you again!

Haven't had DMD open since the day I downloaded 1.4.  If that's how many you're seeing, then when I'm working on DM solid for a week or so, I'll probably increase your Trend View hits by 10x all by myself!  It truly is a great feature.

It tracks whether a feature has been used or not, simple bool, on a per session basis. Each time it is run, it dumps the usage from the previous time it was run. We are developing utilities that will allow us to track on a per user basis to give us better data. But yeah, for now, if you do lots of sessions you will greatly skew the stats.

This has given us an amazing tool...We should have done this years ago.

Actually, I was thinking of it as sort of UNskewing the numbers!   ;D

Whoah Now please don't take my Trend View!  I love this tool and it has saved my bacon a few times.  I use it lot log data for pressure and flow transducers and export it to create graphs for customers.  I know its a little crude and doesn't log high frequency stuff, but it is pretty user friendly and I like it!  Great Job.  I know there would be nice features to add too.

Don't take my trend view ;D

On another note I love the new Element Picker Tool feature!  It save mind energy trying to find new element without duplicating one already used.

Great Job!

I use trend view a lot for troubleshooting, it's a great tool. Company rules prevent my "PLC network" from being connected to the internet, so I guess you can't collect any usage data from me.

Not going anywhere.

Awesome!

A prudent rule.

Thanks for the feedback.

I absolutely have been using the Trend View. Being able to gather data over longer periods of time, makes equipment qualification way easier. More importantly its very easy to defend a performance review document during an audit, when you have 1000s of data points to prove the equipment is doing what your design document claims it does. The only weakness from that standpoint is the fact that the trend data is in the csv format. We just have to make sure that we prove that nobody cooked the books, and fit the data to the design, during a qualification.

You can also save and restore as a Trend Archive, which is a binary file that would be much harder to falsify. From the Export option, select the Trend Archive output. You can load those files from File>Import.
