Does the Modbus gateway have enough processing power that it could in the future have an auto detect of the serial device(s) it is connected with?
-
How many slaves should it auto-detect? Should it try every baud, parity, stop bit, etc for each slave?
This would seem to be a pretty slippery slope. It could literally take hours for the MB-GATEWAY to boot up if it were to auto-detect with no restrictions.

More like a semi auto detect or how DS5 works on a serial connection. If I try to connect a GS3 and one setting is wrong it won't work.

The DS Auto-Detect for serial ports only tries Address 1. It cycles baud rates on that one address, not on all 90 possible addresses. I think Modbus has up to 247 possible addresses? That would take a LONG time, like rlp122 said.
