Title: DMD 1.2 ladder editing problems
Post by: LWgreys on November 23, 2013, 03:16:14 PM
Anyone having problems like this?

While editing, try to Cut and Paste rungs, the rungs would be cut but nothing will paste.
And if lines are to be replaced, not only are the rungs that are cut gone, but also the rungs that are hi-lighted cut and nothing is pasted. Now all those rungs are lost. Even when the cut rungs are to be inserted in front of a rung, the rung to be inserted in front of is also deleted and nothing is pasted.

I'm running Window 7 64bit. The previous DMD version had no problems with the editor.
I have to go back to the previous version if I need to move rungs.

I am almost certain that we know about this and have it fixed already. I don't remember the exact details, but I don't think it happens all the time...only certain specific conditions. Mark, can you elaborate?

What are you seeing in the Output Window?

I'm guessing that this is one of two known bugs, one of which is fixed, one that still needs to be addressed.  We are planning a maintenance release soon, but in the mean time, there is a work around:

1. If you do the PASTE, but the logic does NOT show up, try again but this time...

2. Right after the "paste" command, if you get the "Paste Options" dialog where it asks you how to do "Inter-Code-Block Struct Field Handling" radio button group, select "NO, keep the original source...", then do the Search->Replace operation manually witinin the DESTINATION code-block of the ORIGINAL code-block structure with the DESTINATION code-block structure (e.g. replace "$Main" (clip source) with "MyCodeBlock" (clip destination))

3. If you do NOT get the "Paste Options" dialog, or you get it but it does NOT include the "Inter-Code-Block Struct Field Handling" radio button group option, let us know.

Strange, DMD hasn't done it again. Not sure what leads up to the problem but I'm sure It will start doing it again.
As for the option box, one never showed up.

If it start doing it again I'll try to keep track of what I was doing before the 'STraNGenESs' happens again.

The bug is real, no doubt. We have solved what we know about, but anything more would be helpful. If you get a project in a state that can repeatedly create the problem, please send us a copy and directions on how you duped it.

In addition to the steps to failure, please note if anything shows up in the output window.

FYI, the cause of the problem in 1.2.1 is when a code-block structure member has a nickname, e.g. MyProg.S5 has a Nickname "LowerPress" or whatever.  That will FAIL the paste of the logic (and remarkably, NOT report it).

The fix is that it will no longer fail, along with a separate fix for when the (possible) situation that if it ever DOES fail, it will report details on the failure (so that I can fix it much faster).

There is a 2nd known issue in 1.2.1 when copying entire code-blocks with instruction(s) that references a device between two different Projects.  The device, if it does not already exist in the 2nd project, will cause the paste operation to fail.  You get an "internal error" on that one, but it's still broke.  Still working on THAT one.

These are the two we know about in 1.2.1.  If you happen to run across a different failure, please let us know.

Still haven't duplicated the problem.
It may be a problem while some other programs are running.
So will load those programs while running DMD 1.2 and see if it happens again.

I believe it to be with a problem with the Clip Board data.
Had to install the ClipBook Viewer from XP to look at the data.
WOW the stuff DMD puts in it.
I noticed that Directsoft does not put much in the clipboard so I guessing that Dircetsoft uses its own clip buffer instead of using the normal clipboard for the cut, copy and paste data other than the note it left in the clipboard.

Due to the dynamic nature of Do-more's memory configuration, we have to include the entire system configuration with the program clip. DirectSoft only needs the program opcodes, since DL controllers are completely fixed. The is a huge amount of magic going on behind the scenes that makes it possible to cut code from one program and drop it into a different program that might have a completely different memory config.

That makes sense!

Funny I have not duplicated the problem again.
Had to be in the early entry of the program while the source was small still.
I'll see if I have a backup of the early source.
