Title: Windows 8
Post by: pereeder on May 14, 2013, 02:26:53 PM
Hello All-
Anybody using  DS5  with Windows 8? It's time for a new laptop & I need to know if it's safe for Win8 yet.
Thanks

I have not seen anything on windows 8 and DSoft, my wife just got a new laptop, she hates 8 and wants to trade me. I know this not the place but I haven’t seen any other topics on and I’m lazy and didn’t want to start one. Anyway, some chatter about the new 8, Solid Works won’t work on it, AutoCad won’t work on it, will DSoft work and the rest of the stuff from ADC? There is a lot of people that actually use their computers as tools for their job and not just to play a dramatized game of tag. This whole social media thing is really getting out of control……your say.
Just posted this on another topic...duh didn't see it till after the post. So is all the DSoft going to work like , Sure Step, SureServ, and the C-More software?

DirectSOFT, Do-more Designer and all of our utilities (NetEdit, CTRIO WB, ERM WB, DNLoader) are all that we can vouch for. Those other pieces of software are from other vendors, so you'll have to take that up with them and/or with Automationdirect.

And I agree fully about Windows 8. If i get into Desktop 'mode' it's a lot like Windows 7, but it's really a hassle to navigate, and full-screen apps (as the default) is fine for tablets and even laptops with small screens, but for desktop PCs with nice big monitors, full-screen is just plain wrong. Rumor has it that the START button will return in v8.1, that'll help some.

Agreed ** 2.  Agreed * infinity.  Agreed * (infinity ** infinity).

Here's a rant from a post I made on Dr. Dobbs article:
Metro on a Desktop or a touch-screen-less laptop is missing the key feature of the UI. That would be like a DOS machine without a keyboard, or a Windows 3.x machine without a mouse.

I keep my 23" desktop monitor a good arms length away, so trying to use a tablet-centric UI is very awkward. Similarly, a laptop without a touch screen is just as awkward, even with a touch pad (might as well use a mouse).

Trying to be all things to all people (devices) is a fruitless path. Embrace the differences, don't try to blur or eliminate them.

Here is what she (my wife) has found and used, the link will take you to it plus there are some other things going on about how Microsoft, for a lack of better words, giving us all the finger and if you don’t like it then it’s just too bad.

Apple (in my book) has done that a long time ago and continues to get worse. I have forbidden any family member (under my roof) to purchase and or use an apple product for the last 8 years.  It cost my son over $150 to transfer some of his music library into a format that he can use on other devises, thanks to Apple’s propriety bait and switch game. He could have bought the CDs and formatted files for him to use on other devise for less than that. Now he is stuck with and extensive, expensive music library that he has to lug around with him on his ipod.

I mean no offense to any one that does use or like apple products….your preference is yours and your choice is yours that is why we have more than just Chevrolet and Ford.

I hope this helps any one that is or has purchased anything with 8 on it.
