WinPLC needs more speed
« on: June 13, 2007, 07:25:24 AM »
I'm a WinPLC fan and would like to see the processor speed increased. I mean a real jump not just 40Mhz to 100Mhz, say 500Mhz -1Ghz. Often I use several EBC's and rather large programs and often scan times exceed 35ms. Maybe it's just ineffiecient programming on my part but sometimes I find lags when communicating with HMI's.

you're in a pretty big crowd of folks who want a faster winplc.

the major issue is that it will take a complete redesign to make it possible. the hitachi processor we used (sh1) topped out speed wise at 100mhz, and then microsoft's wince support essentially dried up except for a few other processors.

changing processors, along with it's companion chips, is a huge undertaking. we'd need significant marketing interest to start something that major, and so far, that interest just hasn't been there.
Good design costs a lot. Bad design costs even more.
