Help.. “Think & Do Studio” Installation CD damaged.
« on: February 13, 2011, 09:23:59 AM »
I was wondering if anyone still has their installation CD for “Think & Do Studio Ver 7.3”  My hard drive crashed and when I went to reinstall “Think & D0”,  I found that the CD had a huge scratch across it and it won’t load. I have contacted Automation Direct, Phoenix Contact and Entivity to see if they would let me either download another copy, or let me buy a replacement CD, but they want me to buy a complete package. I have my “hardware key”, as well as all of the serial numbers etc, and can’t really afford to replace everything. We use a 205 on a test stand in our shop, and I am beyond being desperate to change the program. (the test stand has been down for a week, and I cannot get it running again until I get the program)   Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the CD ?

I find it really odd that AutomationDirect wouldn't replace your CD, especially if you have the original. They are normally very good about such things.

Yes, i thought that it was strange as well. Never had any problem with Automation direct in the past, always been wonderfull people to deal with.

The excuse that I got was that they do not keep copies of obsolete software, so they directed me to Phoeix. They then put me intouch with a Tech Support person at Entivity who then told me to go back to the original supplier (Automation direct). So, here I am back at where I started.

I gave every one of the them the original order number,P.O. number, key number, the whole bit, but they all passed the responsibility off to someone else.

tdemal, I forwarded your request to my contact at Phoenix Contact. Perhaps he can help you.

Thank you Greg, your contact sent me a message suggesting that I purchase an extended warranty from Automation Direct, unfortunatley it sounds like a lot of money just to be able to get a replacement CD. When I bought the program just over 3 years ago, I think that I paid a little over $4000 for it. You would think that they would at least offer a free download service. (like most other software vendors)

FWIW, if it were our product, we'd work it out. Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do that we haven't already done. Sorry.

tdemal, here's the problem. The main reason Phoenix Contact cannot not conveniently provide you with a replacement CD or download link, is simply because the replacement contains a licensed copy of Microsoft Visio. Thus, the $199 charge for the replacement.

You might could work it out with Microsoft (& Phoenix Contact) guys. I've actually done similar things with other software. I called Microsoft one time and explained my laptop HD crashed, gave them proof of my purchase, and they promptly sent me a CD replacement (for $2 or something cheap), and provided a download-limited link. Very cooperative and understanding.
