I am using DS32 v3.0. I recently transferred it to a laptop running Vista. How do I direct the software to use the USB ports?

the USB port is used only if it has an RS-232 adapter connected to it. The driver for the adapter creates a COM port. The COM port is what DirectSoft uses.

Very probably the driver is already built into Vista. it will find it when you first plug the adapter into a USB connector. I don't know about Vista but in XP I would then go to System Properties - Hardware to note which COM port number was assigned to the adapter.
If all this doesn't work then get in touch with the manufacturer of the USB adapter.
