I have searched extensively for C-more and DirectSoft 5 without coming up with any examples on how the panel communicates logically with the software.
The best help would be links to simple examples of loading numeric display input from the touch panel to the ladder logic, how to light up an indicator on the touch panel from the software, how to interpret a screen button press as an input.

I have done a lot of programming in higher level languages but am just starting with PLC.

I have a DL-250-1 successfully connected to a C-More EA7-S6C-R panel and both connected to my PC.  I have the C-More programming software installed and have created and downloaded a simple assortment of on/off switch, valve indicators, indicator lamps and pushbuttons.  The addressing seems clear enough; it is just the interaction with DirectSoft 5 which seems to have no instructional support.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your question is a bit confusing.

Directsoft programs the PLC
The C-More software programs the C-More display
The C-More display interacts with the PLC

The most interaction between Directsoft and the C-More software would be to export tags from Diorectsoft and then import them into the C-More software.

Can you clairify your request?

An output is a PLC's way of getting its inputs to change.
